The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is a celebrated area of outstanding natural beauty, with gently rolling countryside and almost dreamlike ancient villages.

The local limestone, which is a beautiful honey-gold colour, is very distinctive. Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Broadway are well-known places, but there are many other beautiful villages and hamlets that have been built harmoniously with the limestone.

The Cotswold Hills are a distinctive feature of the landscape, and there are some magnificent views to enjoy. The ancient Beech woods along the Cotswolds escarpment are particularly rich in nature and wildlife.

Great local produce can be bought directly from Chesterton Farm Shop, Daylesford Organics, Primrose Vale Farm Shop and PYO, Culimores Organics, and Duchy Home Farm to name but a few standout producers.

There are intriguing antique shops in many of the Cotswold villages, particularly Tetbury and Stow-on-the-Wold.

The area has a close association with the Arts & Crafts movement, and there are several exceptional examples of this style in Kelmscott Manor, Rodmarton Manor, and Owlpen Manor. The tradition of craftspeople lives on in the south Cotswolds around Stroud, where several notable craft companies making beautiful home furnishings have become established - these are well worth a visit.

Cotswold Grange Hotel is ideally located to take advantage of all that the Cotswolds has to offer. Our Cheltenham hotel is within a 30-minute drive of several magnificent viewing points, unique Cotswold villages and gently rolling countryside.
